Individuality and Self Branding
A foundational pillar of becoming a leader and growing in leadership skills is understanding oneself. Our values, personality styles, strengths, and weaknesses dictate our ability to work with and motivate teams, react to opportunity and adversity, and cope with setbacks and failures. In this unit, students will reflect and assess the core elements of their own identity and learn ways to leverage those things as effective team members and leaders on campus.
Lessons can be taught as stand-alone topics or can be used in a traditional unit format with one topic leading into the next. When taught in its entirety, this unit’s lessons build student capacity in the following areas.
Students will:
- Investigate their own values and apply group morality to the assessment of ethical decision making for themselves and others.
- Examine their personal learning styles, personality type, and coping strategies while understanding how to effectively interact with others who differ in each of those areas.
- Explore Motivational Theories, The Role of Emotion in Motivation, The Effect of End Results on Motivation, and Applying Motivational Techniques to self and others.
- Assess the value they bring to teams and align their personal strengths and weaknesses with those of other team members.
- Seek growth and self-improvement through healthy introspection.
