Alayna Nichols

National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month: April – Alayna Nichols

This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Alayna Nichols from Drew Middle School in Fredericksburg, VA. One of her nominators, Shannon Patterson, wrote:

Ms. Nichols is an asset to our school community. She is always quick to jump in and support in any area of need. Her ability to connect with students is truly awe-inspiring.  She can think through scenarios and challenges and find creative thought-provoking solutions and she follows through with fidelity. Our students know that she is available for support and as a personal cheerleader for their accomplishments big and small. She knows that each step in a positive direction is worth noting and supporting. Ms. Nichols supports our teachers as well in growing and creating a positive learning environment for all. She helps develop lessons and activities that are scaffolded to support students at all levels while enriching their learning experience. She is also one of the first people to help celebrate staff accomplishments and growth. When I need to brainstorm creative solutions she is the first person I think of. She is great support even when the problem has nothing to do with her job or role.

How long have you been involved with Renaissance?

Two years.

What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?

I LOVE that we changed our school spirit day from Friday to Monday- making it MonYAY! Seeing students excited to come back to school is amazing!

How has Renaissance impacted your school’s culture?

Renaissance has created an atmosphere at Drew where students and staff take ownership of engagement. Everyone has the shared goals of making school as great as it can be, and seeing and celebrating the greatness in each other.

How has Renaissance affected you personally?

I have learned the power of positivity. It’s not just being cheerful or optimistic- it’s the intentional practice of planning and building in opportunities for happiness, rewards, and excellence across the board.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with Renaissance?

Lean into it and have fun! Focus on the good, then the good gets better.

Alayna will receive a tote bag and a lapel pin in recognition of her achievement.
