NATIONAL RENAISSANCE STAFFULTY OF THE MONTH: APRIL – AMY ADAMS

This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Amy Adams from Berkeley Middle School in Moncks Corner, SC. Nominator Larsen Tedder describes how she brings a variety of skills and huge amounts of heart to their Renaissance group (lightly edited):

“Amy and I were given the task of starting the Renaissance program at our school this fall. After attending conference, we were ‘on fire’ for this program. Adams has spent countless hours working to make Renaissance successful in our school. Under her leadership, she has raised over $5,000 in one semester AND increased the number of students who were Renaissance eligible. Her attention to detail is like no other and she is the most helpful and positive person I have ever had the pleasure of working with. My favorite event that Amy helped host was a Kindness Day. During this day, we changed the whole school schedule and allowed students to attend different sessions. There were discussions about disabilities, obstacles, and overcoming it all. I have never been more proud to be a Berkeley Middle School Buck. She has also organized roundtable events for all Renaissance schools in our district. Adams fully embodies all that Renaissance is and I am thankful that she is spearheading the task of becoming a Renaissance school.

How long have you been involved with Renaissance?

1 year.

What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?

I cannot recall a single moment that stands out as a favorite moment with Renaissance. I truly enjoy working with all of the students and my Renaissance colleagues. They all make me want to be a better person and strive to be the best me that I can be. All moments spent with them are my favorite.

How has Renaissance impacted your school’s culture?

We work everyday to improve the culture of our school through Renaissance. Even though this is only the first year that we have had a Renaissance Club, we have seen an increase in excitement, engagement and performance of students academically and behaviorally. The group of Renaissance advisers and I are excited to see what the future holds for our school!

How has Renaissance affected you personally?

Not only has Renaissance affected the school as a whole, but it has had a tremendous impact on me personally. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my Renaissance team and the students. Renaissance pushes me to be the best person that I can be not only for myself, but for those around me as well. Renaissance has been a huge blessing to me as an individual.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with Renaissance?

Don’t give up! Renaissance is a lot of work but it is worth every single minute of time and energy that it requires. Enjoy the journey and have fun!

Amy will receive a shirt and a lapel pin, and was entered into a drawing for free registration to this year’s Jostens Renaissance National Conference.
