This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Conner Mattingly from Henderson County High School in Kentucky. Nominator Tanner Vaughn wrote:
He is always an energetic guy that gets involved in every single thing that we do. No matter if it might be boring to him, super fun, if it might embarrass, or even if it might not. He is always participating to help encourage other people to also get involved, or to even help the people who participated seem like they stood with him while participating so they don’t feel excluded from the people who didn’t participate. He keeps all of this up while also pushing students to strive on state testing and the ACT because he sees something in everyone that they might not see themselves and encourage them to try their hardest and most of the time, they always do.
What do you teach? Are you involved with anything else at your school?
I am the Assistant Principal, Work directly with the math department, as well as the Student Ambassador Sponsor, Renaissance Team Leader, Assistant Basketball Coach.
What is something you appreciate about your school’s culture?
I appreciate how much our students love being a Colonel. Our students wear so many hats from students, to club members, to their CTE pathway, to advanced and dual credit courses, to athletes, to performing well on high-stakes testing, and so much more. However, they always seem to remain committed, caring, and confident Colonels.
What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?
Our Spirit Weeks are amazing at HCHS. Our students take so much ownership over what it means to be a Colonel and represent their graduating class. It is something that students and Staffulty look forward to every year.
How has Renaissance affected you personally?
Renaissance fills my cup with an amazing community of leaders across the country who are pulling in the same direction as you and want to help all schools be enjoyable to both the students and the Staffulty. It reminds me of why I got into education almost daily.
What is something you are “All In” for inside or outside of school?
I am “all in” on helping students find their success. Whatever that means to them individually. Each student is different, but every success they find is huge. I am “all in” on helping create the amazing memories they will have about high school. When they look back, they will definitely have great stories to tell about HCHS.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to become more empathetic?
Attend JRGC! There is NO DOUBT that you will leave that conference more hopeful for your school and education as a whole!
