INSTRUCTIONS FOR ATTENDANCE REWARDS:
- Choose criteria for earning a reward in advance.
- The criteria you name should feel like a slight stretch for the students at your school but should still be attainable a noticeable percentage of your students. Examples include perfect attendance for the previous semester, quarter, month or week.
- Select a desirable reward.
- The reward should be visible, tangible and walk-a-roundable™ (portable). Think bags of snack-sized chips, candy bars or dollar store trinkets.
- On a designated day, announce the students who have perfect attendance and have them collect their reward. The more public and celebratory the reward feels, the more people will want to strive to achieve it next time.
- Announce your next attendance reward challenge.
ADDITIONAL IDEAS & OPPORTUNITIES:
- Modify the idea above for your yearbook classroom by naming criteria like meeting mini-deadlines or plant deadlines, including a minimum number of unique students on their yearbook spread, etc.
