Start a new tradition! “A” Day is when students receive a reward in every class where they’ve earned an A grade. Repeat this celebration at the end of every semester to build anticipation and drive students to work harder for a reward.
School Type: Intermediate school, middle school, high school (5-12)
Activity Goal: Recognize and reward academic achievement
People Required: Administration and Staffulty
Timing: After the end of a quarter, trimester or semester
Materials: Certificates and rewards like candy, coupons or passes to school events.
Cost: $100
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Announce the name of students who will receive a reward on “A” Day.
- Ask teachers to choose a reward they will present to students.
- Administrators: provide a list of rewards teachers can choose. Click here for a list of free or low-cost rewards.
- Ask classroom teachers to distribute rewards to students with A’s during each class period on a designated day.
- Spread the recognition!
- Consider offering a larger reward at the end of the day for students who received a higher-than-average number of A’s.
