Kindness Pinwheels

Purchase or create pinwheels, then give place them in a designated space each time an act of random kindness is performed or witnessed.

School Type: Elementary school, middle school, high school (K-12)

Activity Goal: Recognize and reward character

People Required: One Staffulty leader

Timing: Random Acts of Kindness Week or any time in the school year

Materials: Pinwheels

Space Required: Storage for pinwheels and a place to display them, like a lawn or bulletin board

Cost: $100

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Obtain needed permissions for the pinwheel display
  2. Purchase or create pinwheels.
  3. Explain the activity to either your Staffulty or student leaders who are in charge of handing out the pinwheels.
  4. Each time an act of kindness is displayed, give them a pinwheel for them to sign. Here are ideas of random acts of kindness:
    • Starting a conversation with someone new or not well-known
    • Delivering care baskets to a charity or senior home
    • Campus litter cleanup
    • Donating to a food bank
    • Helping a teacher with a task
    • Writing a note
    • Tutoring a peer or helping someone with their homework
  5. Place the pinwheel in a public space like a lawn or a staple to a large bulletin board.

 

ADDITIONAL IDEAS & OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Create a form for self-reporting acts of kindness. Let people be proud of the good things they do and recognize them for it!
