This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Chase Chatfield at Vancleave Middle School in Vancleave, MS. Nominator Ashley Allred writes (lightly edited):

“Chase Chatfield consistently goes above and beyond for ALL staffulty and students. He’s an encourager, an incredible teacher, a helper…. a spreader of all the good things. He loves what he does, and it shines through in a major way. No one has more fun directing traffic. He can be seen daily with purple pool noodles waving them in the air as he gets students safely across the street. He’s our all-time rally emcee, and game planner. He spends his planning period every day helping the front office get deliveries made, and he singlehandedly started up a successful Esports program in our district. He’s a Rockstar, and our campus wouldn’t be the same without him!”

How long have you been involved with Renaissance?

Seven years.

What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?

During a scavenger hunt at a Make it Matter Monday rally, students were sent out to retrieve a yellow piece of paper. One participant returned with a student’s copy of a write up. Later in the day, the student who provided the write up was all smiles saying, “Even though I did something bad I used it for good and helped my team win!”

How has Renaissance impacted your school’s culture?

Renaissance has helped students find a place to call their own and when needed, create a place knowing there are adults who support them.

How has Renaissance affected you personally?

Through Renaissance, I learned to give myself permission to be who I am and gained a family that pushes me to grow.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with Renaissance?

If you are just starting Renaissance, focus on a few ideas you can put into action quickly. Share your ideas with students and use their feedback. Personally ask teachers for help and respect their help comfort level.

Mr. Chatfield will receive a tote bag and a lapel pin to recognize his achievement.
