This month’s National Renaissance Staffulty of the Month is Jessica Frasier from Oakbrook Middle School in South Carolina. Nominator Julia Solustri wrote:
Mrs. Frasier’s love and commitment to Oakbrook Middle School extends far beyond the gym walls. While she leads with energy and excellence in her physical education classes, her impact is felt in every corner of our building. She embodies what it means to give 110% — not just when it is convenient, not just when it is visible, but consistently and wholeheartedly. No matter what is happening on campus — a pep rally, a school event, a last-minute need for coverage, a student who needs encouragement, or a colleague who needs support — Mrs. Frasier shows up. Her positivity is steady. Her work ethic is unwavering. Her dedication is contagious. What makes her especially deserving of the ‘Best Effort’ recognition is that her commitment is not confined to her contract hours. Mrs. Frasier regularly volunteers her time to support school initiatives, student events, and staff morale efforts. She steps in without hesitation, often without recognition, simply because she believes in OMS and the people who make up our community. Our students, families, and staff are better because of her willingness to go above and beyond. Her example naturally raises the bar for those around her. When colleagues see her consistent effort, it inspires them to match her energy and dedication. She models what it means to be #AboveTheRest — not through grand gestures, but through daily reliability, heart, and service. Mrs. Frasier represents the true spirit of Renaissance: celebrating people who pour into their school community with pride and purpose.
What do you teach? Are you involved with anything else at your school?
Physical Education Teacher, Assistant Athletic Director, Renaissance Club co-leader, Renaissance Teacher Committee, Mentor for our girls mentoring group
What is something you appreciate about your school’s culture?
One thing I truly appreciate about our school’s culture is that we always go above and beyond for one another. At Oakbrook Middle School, we are more than just coworkers. We are a family. Our staffulty consistently steps up whenever someone needs help, whether it’s supporting a colleague, helping with students, or jumping in wherever needed. Our administration has done an incredible job creating and fostering this culture at OMS. Because of their leadership, our school is a place where people genuinely care for one another and work together to create the best environment possible for our students. Everything we do is centered around supporting and celebrating them. It’s a culture of teamwork, pride, and positivity that truly helps our school stand above the rest.
What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?
My favorite Renaissance moment for me was when we all came together as a school to throw a surprise Renaissance Rally and celebration for Mrs. Lewis when she won Educator of the Year!
How has Renaissance affected you personally?
Renaissance has not only made me a better teacher, but also a better coworker. It has helped me build stronger relationships and interact more with staff members across the school. Through Renaissance, I’ve really seen how much school spirit and family culture we have at Oakbrook Middle School. We’ve come together as a school community to create a positive and fun learning environment for our students. It has also opened my eyes to how many people in our building truly care about our students and are committed to making OMS a great place to learn and work. Personally, it has helped me be more positive throughout my day. When I see our amazing students come to school with so much energy and happiness because of the ways we celebrate them, it reminds me that I should bring that same energy and positivity as well. Seeing their excitement inspires me to show up every day ready to support, encourage, and celebrate them
What is something that helps you feel Better Than Good?
Student breakthroughs both on an off the court give me all the “Better Than Good” feels. There’s nothing quite like the magic of an “Aha!” moment at a desk when one of our kids suddenly “Gets It.” But also to hear the roar of the crowd during the games when a kid comes back from an injury. As a teacher and athletic trainer, I get a front-row seat to watching our Falcons fly, and honestly, that’s the best seat in the house.
What is something you do to help others feel Better Than Good?
High Five Fridays are easily a highlight of our week! There’s nothing like blaring music and rocking a giant foam hand to start the day by putting a ‘Better Than Good!’ smile on their faces. Beyond the high fives, I love celebrating our kids through Fantastic Falcon awards for their steady progress and Student of the Month honors for those quiet leaders who consistently do the right thing. It’s all about making sure every Falcon feels seen.
What advice would you give someone who wants to give their best effort more consistently?
As a PE teacher, I remind students that giving your best effort isn’t about being the fastest or the strongest. It’s about showing up, trying, and improving each day. Progress happens when you stay consistent, even on the days when things feel challenging. Set small goals, encourage the people around you, and remember that effort and attitude often matter more than the final result.
Jessica will receive a coffee tumbler and a lapel pin in recognition of her achievements.
