This month’s National Renaissance Student of the Month is Kirsten Evans from Ottawa High School in Ottawa, KS. Her nominator Jennifer Kane writes, “Kirsten is a sophomore on our Renaissance Core Council. She has worked tirelessly to try to help change climate and culture at OHS and has gone above and beyond as we continue to seek to make OHS a true Renaissance school. Kirsten led the charge to create a PowerPoint and present to our school board to gain approval to take a group of students to JRNC this summer. She is regularly coming up with new ideas to try and gives of her time to make OHS a great place for all students. On our recent Staffulty Work Day, Kirsten came in with a few other Renaissance Core Council members to change out our March birthday bulletin board.”

How long have you been involved with Renaissance?

2 years.

What’s a favorite Renaissance moment for you?
One of my favorite Renaissance moments for me was when me and a couple of friends made a presentation about going to the National Conference. We made the presentation and presented it to the school board and got it approved!

How has Renaissance impacted your school’s culture?
Renaissance has impacted my schools culture by promoting positivity in the school and it keeps kids involved.

How has Renaissance affected you personally?
Renaissance has affected me personally by giving me a better vision of being in the environment of school. It has made me think more positively and help others do the same.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with Renaissance?
My advice would be to put yourself out there and go out of your comfort zone. Renaissance has helped me be more outgoing and it helps you with leadership.
